More than one million dollars in defense grants are headed for Northwest Florida communities and organizations that support military installations.

Governor Rick Scott made the announcement during Gulf Power’s 15th Annual Economic Symposium in Sandestin Monday.

Scott says the grants will spur economic growth and create jobs you’ll remember his main campaign pledge was to create 700,000 new jobs in Florida in seven years. With unemployment still at 10 percent, Scott says job creation takes several factors.

“I think having no income tax is a big deal, getting rid of the business tax and phasing it out is very helpful. Having a better attitude about regulations this year and then the rest is calling on companies and finding what their needs are and it’s selling” said Governor Scott.
