County commissioners are applauding Sheriff Frank McKeithen’s research on Bay County’s homeless population, calling it “Fair and Extensive”, but some say it’s misleading.
McKeithen says he found 380 people who have been arrested this year, gave the rescue mission as their address. He also said 33 registered sex offenders and/or sexual predators live within a mile of the mission. Rescue Mission Director Reverend Billy Fox says, looking at the numbers alone can be misleading.
Commissioners are asking for more information before deciding to support a proposal to build a new homeless shelter.
