Lionfish In Northwest Florida

State wildlife officials are warning of lionfish in northwest Florida.

Over the years, some owners have tossed the fish into the ocean or Gulf, causing problems for the nation’s coral reef structure lionfish have the ability to spawn several times a year. They can produce up to 30,000 eggs each time they spawn.

Research divers with the Mexico Beach artificial reef association have spotted four in our area so far this year.
