JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) -- Law enforcement officers were preparing to gather in Jonesboro for the funeral of a Clayton County sheriff's deputy who was shot to death while trying to help apprehend a teenager wanted on felony warrants.
The deputy, 55-year-old Rick Daly of Zebulon, died after being shot during a traffic stop. His funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Jonesboro.
The teenager, 17-year-old Jonathan Bun of Riverdale, is facing murder charges.
Daly, who also spent about 20 years as an officer in the Clayton County Police Department, is the first countywide law enforcement officer in Clayton County to die by gunshot in the line of duty.
He leaves his wife, Cheryl, two children and his mother.
