Tuna Population Not Terribly Affected by Oil Spill

A federal analysis shows the Gulf oil spill probably won't impact an endangered tuna population as badly as some scientists had feared.

Some scientists were concerned about the blue fin tuna population, because one-fifth of their habitat was coated in oil.

But the analysis says that, at most, the spill may result in a four-percent reduction in the future spawning of the fish, but it will probably be much less than that.

Meantime, a summit begins Monday in Houston to examine the overall health of the Gulf after the worst oil spill in history.
