Walton County Sheriff's deputies are investigating what appears to be a high-tech burglary.

It happened overnight at the Silver Sands factory outlet in Miramar Beach.

One of the mall's security guards discovered the break-in at the coach store around 6:00 this morning.

The only visible evidence of Thursday morning's break-in was the broken glass in the Coach store's front door, an open back door, and a suspicious package nearby.

Walton County Sheriff' officials called in nearby fire departments and personnel from two area bomb squads.

Explosives technicians determined the package was not explosive, but it may have played an important role in the burglary.

It reportedly contained a device that disrupts alarm systems. Sheriff's investigator will not confirm that information.

Coach store managers are inventorying the merchandise to see what's missing, and Silver Sands management is reviewing the incident.

"Until that investigation is complete we'll keep our security procedures in place and after the investigation is completed and reported to us then of course we will be making a decision whether or not we will be changing our procedures or not," said Vice President of Operations Bill Bubel.

None of the other stores were affected by the burglary, but the Coach store remained closed Thursday.
