SPRINGFIELD, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities in southeast Georgia have arrested a 16-year-old Effingham County High School student on charges of having a loaded gun and knife on school property.
Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie released a statement saying the student is charged with two counts of possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a handgun under the age of 18 and disrupting a public school.
Authorities say the student had both weapons inside the school.
He is being held in the Claxton Youth Detention Center.
Sheriff's Detective David Ehsanipoor says Tuesday's arrest is an isolated incident and unrelated to a recent bomb threats at the high school.
