BOWDON, Ga. (AP) -- A massive fire at a tire manufacturing plant in Carroll County is nearly extinguished.
The blaze erupted Sunday at about 1 a.m. at the 250,000-square-foot Carlisle Tire and Wheel Company.
There were no injuries, but the blaze prompted school officials to cancel classes at five schools in Bowdon.
By Friday, officials said the fire was nearly completely out. Firefighters have been working on site 24 hours a day all week to put out the blaze.
Firefighters say most of the remaining structures on the grounds will have to be demolished. There was no word on the future of the company's 320 workers.
