SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- A student has been wounded in a shooting at a residence hall at Savannah State University.

University spokeswoman Loretta Heyward says the shooting happened between 11 a.m. and noon Friday at the historically black college on Savannah's south side. She says campus officials don't know whether the shooter has been apprehended or whether another student was involved in the shooting.

Officials have not released the name of the wounded student, who was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Heyward did not know other details.

The campus was locked down immediately following the shooting. Cars were allowed to leave the school around 2 p.m., but cars are not being allowed to travel onto the campus.

Campus police have called in Savannah-Chatham County police officers and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for assistance.
