Soldier From Georgia Dies In Iraq

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) -- A Fort Wainwright soldier from Georgia has died in Iraq.

The soldier, 35-year-old Lt. William K. Jernigan of Doraville, Ga., died in Baqouba of injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident.

The Defense Department says the incident is under investigation.

Jernigan was assigned to the Headquarters Company, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry.

Jernigan is the third Stryker soldier to die in Iraq since more than 4,000 brigade soldiers left for the Middle East two months ago.
