APPLING, Ga. (AP) -- An outdated policy that allows spanking in Columbia County schools is under review.
School board officials will consider the item at a meeting Tuesday night.
Deputy Superintendent Sandra Carraway says officials have been reviewing several policies and have deleted many of them.
When they came across this one, she says officials realized nobody had used it for "many years" -- and officials didn't want anyone to start.
The policy allows for corporal punishment with parental authorization, and requires that parents be notified when such punishment is applied.
