Atlanta area student arrested on battery charges

NORCROSS, Ga. (AP) -- A high school student has been arrested on charges he choked a teacher and punched a school administrator.

According to a police report, 17-year-old Hector Alexis Diaz has been charged with two counts of simple battery. Diaz has been released on $4,000 bond.

Police say he wrapped his hands around his Norcross High School teacher's throat as she talked to him about a discipline problem. The teacher's name was not released.

The boy then hit assistant principal Ben Flores in the chest as he escorted the teen to his office.

Police said Diaz blamed his behavior on low blood sugar.
