There's one holiday tradition most of us could do without: waiting in line at the post office.
If you hate those lines, you'll love this report from Money Talks reporter Stacy Johnson.
We've all done it. Waited in line at the Post Office. But if you think this time waster is unavoidable, think again. This type of line is so yesterday, because if you've got a computer and printer, you never need to come here.
Post Master Michael Fortunato said, "You can click, ship and not have to leave the home. It's great stuff."
What this postmaster is describing is ‘Click N Ship’: an online service that let's you print labels complete with postage from your home computer. If you don't have a computer and therefore can't use this service, you can still bypass lines at the post office simply by using the automated postal center: something these people apparently don't know.
"You can mail express mail, you can mail priority, you can put an insured item through there, you can mail it certified. The screen walks you through it... anybody can do it."
Not all post offices have these, but if yours does, with the exception of international shipping, you can do anything at this machine that you can do at the counter. And if all you need is stamps..Those you can order online, and if that's not fast enough, duck into a grocery store. Most carry stamps, as do many other stores. No extra charge. Combine stamps with a postal scale and you're set. No post office... or line... necessary.
Bottom line? Life's too short to spend any of it waiting in line. So just remember this: when it comes to the Post Office if you're queuing up, you could be screwing up.
