La. lawyer gets prison term for bank robbery

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- A Louisiana lawyer will serve time in federal prison for bank robbery.

U.S. Attorney Alice Martin in Birmingham said Wednesday 31-year-old Scott Eason Meece of Hammond, La., was sentenced to 71 months in prison.

He pleaded guilty in Nov. to robbing Superior Bank in Gardendale on Dec. 5, 2006.

Martin said Meece was captured in April 2007. He also confessed to robbing a bank in Mississippi.

Meese said he committed the robberies because he lost his job with a law firm and needed money. He must also pay more than $10,400 in restitution to Superior bank.
