Gas prices decline in Ala. as oil rises

Retail gasoline prices are at their lowest levels in five years, despite higher costs for crude oil.

AAA Alabama says Monday's statewide average for regular is $1.52 a gallon, down 24 cents since last month.

The national average for regular is $1.61.

Midgrade cost $1.62 and the statewide average for premium is $1.67 a gallon.

Tensions generated by a widening conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants sent crude prices up sharply to above $40 a barrel Monday.
