Mohawk Industries is closing its spun yarn operations in Calhoun, resulting in the loss of 160 jobs. Workers were informed Tuesday.
Company officials said the plant will close by Feb. 27.
A company executive blamed the shutdown on a weak economy, especially a downturn in the housing market that decreased the demand for carpet products made at the Calhoun facility.
