A church bookkeeper in Canton is being held without bond following her arrest on theft and forgery charges.

Cherokee County sheriff's deputies arrested 40-year-old Susan Brooms on Tuesday. She's accused of stealing 60-thousand dollars from Sixes Presbyterian Church.

Investigators said Brooms, a Canton resident, allegedly funneled the money to pay for her personal expenses.

Investigators suspect the theft started in 2004.

Deputies also arrested 52-year-old James Broom, the woman's husband, on drug charges. He was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.

James Brooms was released on $12,055 bond.
