4 jailed in marijuana haul in Birmingham area

Jefferson County sheriff's officials say four people, all from out-of-state, were jailed Monday after deputies seized more than 410 pounds of marijuana in separate traffic stops.

Sheriff's Lt. Randy Christian, a spokesman, said the marijuana was seized during traffic stops on Interstate 20 East. He said both vehicles were pulled over for traffic violations.

Arrested was 23-year-old Jorge Cruz Saenz of McAllen, Texas. Christian said more than 400 pounds of the illegal weed was seized from a horse trailer.

In the second case, two North Carolina men and an Arkansas man were jailed after deputies found 10 pounds of marijuana stashed in a rental car they were riding in.

All four were each charged with trafficking marijuana.
