Columbia County officials say they intend to pave dirt roads through rural communities despite the current economic crunch.
The officials say they will use a combination of county funds and a Community Development Block Grant -- federal funds disbursed by the state Department of Transportation. They say $750,000 has been allocated to pave six dirt roads.
Officials concerned about the faltering economy temporarily sacrificed some paving projects to help develop a $3.75 million road contingency fund.
