Clean water research will be the focus of a federal "Center of Excellence" at Alabama A&M University.
The agreement, the first ever for a historically black college, was signed Thursday by university officials, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
The center of excellence will look for ways to improve water quality in Alabama. The state has about 77,000 miles of rivers and streams.
