The general manager of an Athens radio station vows to have the broadcast outlet back on the air as soon as possible.

Melvin Geter made the comments after a fire gutted WBKZ-AM, knocking the minority-owed station off the air.

Athens-Clarke firefighters responded to the blaze just after 5:30 a.m. Thursday

Investigators determined the fire was caused by an electrical problem.

There were no injuries.

WBKZ has served the Athens area and 23 surrounding counties since 1993.
