IRS: Many Filing Tax Returns Incorrectly

IRS officials say many taxpayers are filing their tax returns incorrectly, because of last year's government stimulus checks.

The IRS says 15% of the tax returns received so far include the error in reporting last year's stimulus payments as income.

The government checks aren't taxable, and officials say many taxpayers are mistakenly calculating the checks as income.

IRS officials say the errors are causing filers to make higher tax payments, or claim smaller refunds than they're supposed to receive.
