A girl is in a Birmingham hospital after police said she mistakenly drank hydrochloric acid used to make methamphetamine.

Weaver police said 11-year-old Kristen Michelle Kelley was taken to Children's Hospital following Friday's incident.

Officers executed a search warrant Tuesday at a trailer and found six meth labs on the property. Police said the operation was run by the girl's cousin. The man, whose name was withheld, fled before officers arrived.

Police said the girl's parents will not face charges.

Family members said if Kristen survives, she likely will need medical care for the rest of her life.

Her condition was unavailable.

Why are the parents not being charged? They indangered their child. It's a shame more isn't being done to help this child grew up in a safe and secure home.
