6 candidates vye to become Montgomery mayor


Alabama's capital city could have a new mayor by the end of the day.

Voters in Montgomery will go to the polls Tuesday. The ballot features six hopefuls vying for the position.

The candidates are: Michael Briddell, Willie Cook, Jon Dow, Jay King, Scott Simmons and Todd Strange.

The special election is being held to fill the seat left vacant when Bobby Bright resigned to become Alabama's U.S. Representative in the Second Congressional District.

Charles Jinright, a city council member, has served as interim mayor.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.
