A 28-year-old Dothan man charged with capital murder has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor criminally negligent homicide in a 2007 drug-related slaying.
Defense attorney Valerie Judah says Andre Oshawn Farrier was innocent and had been accused by an unreliable witness. He said Farrier accepted the plea deal on Monday to avoid a capital murder trial in the June 20, 2007 shooting death of Brandon Smith.
Free on bond since last August after nearly a year in jail, Farrier was sentenced to one year on the misdemeanor charge. But the term was suspended because of time already served in jail.
Two others, 27-year-old Brandon Bell and 19-year-old Pravin Dewayne Simpson -- await trial in the slaying.
