Professional beach tennis players are in Panama City Beach until Wednesday.

Two men playing beach tennis on the beach

Have you ever heard of Beach Tennis?

It's an up and coming professional sport hitting beaches across the country, and guess what, some pros are here - for spring break!

You can find the players warming up down at the beach at Sharky's Beachfront Restaurant on Front Beach Road - and they invite you!

Beach Tennis was launched in the U.S., as a pro and recreational sport in 2005. The game combines the best elements of tennis and beach volleyball in to one exciting and fast-paced game.

It's played on a 30' x 60' sand court with two players on each team - each player uses standard tennis racquets to hit a slightly depressurized tennis ball back and forth over the net.

The first event of the 2009 Beach Tennis USA National Tour is the Tampa Bay Open and will take place March 21-22, at 10 Pier 60 drive in Clearwater, Florida.

I went to the Beach Tennis USA event in Miami last year. It was awesome. Like half sport/half concert. Fun sport to watch. Never played it but it looks cool.
