Flood warning continues for Chattahoochee

Flooded rivers remains a concern for the Wiregrass area as the National Weather Service issues a flood warning until Tuesday evening for the Choctawhatchee River near Newton.

The river was at 23.3 feet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and minor flooding was occurring near Newton. Flooding is expected to continue until the river recedes. Moderate flooding will occur if it reaches 24 feet, affecting stores and apartments eight miles downstream near state Highway 92.

The warning continues for the river near Geneva until late Tuesday night. The river was at 30.4 feet at 11 a.m. Sunday. Moderate flooding will continue.

Flood stage is 23 feet. By this evening, the river is expected to continue rising to near 31.4 feet then fall below flood stage Tuesday before midnight.
