Ga. principal resigns over shocking incident


A suburban Atlanta elementary school principal has resigned after being accused of forcing a student to shock himself with a pen he took to school.

Gwinnett County Schools spokeswoman Sloan Roach says Esther Adames-Jimenez will stay at Beaver Ridge Elementary School until the end of the school year but another principal will run the school. Roach says Adames-Jimenez punished the student for bringing a pen emitting a low electrical current to school by asking the pupil to turn the pen on himself.

Adames-Jimenez could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Roach says the district already had decided to terminate Adames-Jimenez's contract. Roach says the principal also was investigated by the state last year for mishandling a national standardized test and a state exam.
