A 61-year-old homeowner trying to stop a burglar in his garage was grabbed from behind by another man and a struggle for his pistol began. It went off twice, striking the homeowner both times.
The homeowner, who was not identified, was taken to the DCH Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. The commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, Capt. Loyd Baker, said nothing was taken from the garage.
Baker said the victim's wife and children were home at the time of the shooting about 1:45 a.m. Monday.
