ASHVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- A judge has sentenced an Alabama inmate to death for the murder of a fellow prisoner at St. Clair Correctional Facility.
Circuit Judge Phillip Seay followed jurors' recommendation Tuesday and imposed the sentence on Taurus Jermaine Carroll.
The Daily Home of Talladega reports that Carroll repeatedly stabbed fellow inmate Michael Darrell Turner with a makeshift knife on Sept. 14, 2009. He was convicted of capital murder in September.
Evidence showed the men were having a confrontation about a contraband cell phone.
Carroll was already serving a sentence of life without parole at the time of the killing. He was convicted of capital murder in 1997 in Birmingham.
