Alabama Teens File for Youthful Offender Status

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) -- Three teens charged in the shooting death of a 17-year-old girl at a south Alabama fish camp have filed for youthful offender status.
WALA-TV reports court documents show the teens charged in Summer Moody's death have applied for the status, which limits sentencing and probation lengths and restricts information that can be released to the public.
The three were indicted in the shooting death of Summer Moody, who was wounded by a warning shot during an alleged burglary in April. Authorities say three men confronted the teens and one of them fired a warning shot, but none of them have been charged in the girl's death.
District Attorney Hallie Dixon has said charging the teens with murder is appropriate because they were participating in a felony.
