ALBANY, Ga. (AP) -- A southwest Georgia high school principal has been reinstated to her position.
The decision by the Dougherty County School Board this week reverses an earlier decision by the board, which had decided in May not to renew Angela Shumate's contract. Shumate will now be returned to her position as principal of Albany High School.
The school board on Monday voted 5-2 to return Shumate to her position.
A state tribunal in August had decided the school board failed to meet the required standard of evidence to back up accusations made by state investigators looking into cheating allegations.
State investigators have said dozens of educators in 11 schools in the school system either cheated or failed to prevent cheating on state standardized tests in 2009.
