DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) -- Authorities say they are awaiting result of an autopsy to determine what caused the death of an inmate in Houston County.
The Decatur Daily reports that 53-year-old Donald Ray Floyd of Dothan died in the jail's medical facility Monday, hours after undergoing a procedure at a local hospital.
Coroner Robert Byrd and Houston County Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Antonio Gonzalez declined to disclose what the procedure was. Byrd said the procedure was a "minor, outpatient kind of thing."
Byrd said Floyd's body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for the autopsy. Byrd said results could be returned within a couple of days if the cause is easily detectable. However, he said the process could take several months if toxicology tests are required.
