Barge With Metal Art And Memorials Sunk as Reef

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) -- Pensacola Beach has a new attraction for divers -- a 175-foot barge that is adorned with stainless steel sculptures and memorial plaques.
The barge was sunk in about 50 feet of water, 1.7 miles off the beach late Wednesday.
It was donated to the community by the owner of a local ship building company who worked with an area artist to come up with an idea for the art barge.
Artwork on the barge includes renderings of the iconic `Welcome to Pensacola' sign, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels fighter jets, the famous FloraBama bar, which is on the Florida/Alabama state line and other items that pay tribute to the region.
