NEWVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Mourners including the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Martin Luther King III packed a small rural church in southeast Alabama to remember the Rev. Al Sharpton's mother, Ada Sharpton.
Others filling Center Baptist Church in Newville on Tuesday included TV judge Greg Mathis and NAACP President Ben Jealous.
Al Sharpton said the woman he called "Effie Mae" would have understood that this was a family gathering. Ada Sharpton died March 22 at the age of 87 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
A supporter of Sharpton's National Action Network, Flava King, said he rode a bus from Atlanta for the funeral to show his respect.
