SATSUMA, Ala. (AP) -- Authorities searching for a person believed to have drowned in a south Alabama creek say they've found a body in the waterway.
Satsuma Police Chief Chris Mclean tells WKRG-TV that the body of a person in his mid-30s was found around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in Gunnison Creek in Satsuma. His name wasn't immediately released.
McLean tells WALA-TV that six friends who had been on Gravine Island were returning on their boat. He said the man jumped into the water Sunday night and never resurfaced.
Gunnison Creek flows south from Creola into Bayou Sara and the Mobile River.
Coast Guard officials say a helicopter was dispatched to the scene to assist with recovery efforts.
