FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A burglary suspect now faces two counts of murder for his role in the death of two bicyclists on a South Florida road.
Authorities say 25-year-old Sadik Baxter was breaking into cars with 26-year-old Obrian Ricardo Oakley in a Cooper City neighborhood Aug. 5. When someone spotted them, Broward Sheriff's officials say Oakley fled in a car, ran a red light, struck another vehicle and hit two bicyclists. Oakley then fled the scene.
The South Florida SunSentinel reports Baxter was charged as an accomplice on Wednesday and faces two counts of murder while engaged in a felony offense. Oakley faces two counts of first-degree murder among other charges.
Authorities say 61-year-old Christopher McConnell and 60-year-old Dean Amelkin were killed in the collision.
