ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) -- A former warrants officer with the Anniston Police Department accused in two shootings has been extradited back to Alabama.
Authorities say Fred Boyd drove more than 200 miles before surrendering to officials in Meridian, Miss. He is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his wife, Cormella Teague Boyd, and also faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly opening fire on another family member.
The Anniston Star reports Boyd quit his job with the police department in August 2011 after 17 years of service.
Boyd is being held in the Calhoun County Jail with no bail for either charge. His preliminary court date is scheduled for Sept. 6.
