Assistant Houston County Coroner Ben Earnest tells The Dothan Eagle that 49-year-old Ronald J. Walsh of Dothan died after something hit him in the head shortly after 3 p.m. Friday.
Earnest says Walsh was trying to secure the inflatable castle after it came loose as a storm passed through. Earnest says the inflatable began to roll down a hill. The former Dothan police officer ran back into it while other volunteers scattered to find cover.
The accident happened on the plant's grounds outside of the secure area.
Walsh was volunteering with a band booster group that was helping set up the event.
