HILLSBORO, Ala. (AP) -- Authorities say fire has destroyed a landmark building in downtown Hillsboro which was filled with merchandise from the 1900s.
J.P. Gibson General Merchandise owner Danny Darnell tells WAFF-TV that he woke up to a call alerting him about the fire at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The store wasn't open for business, but people often stopped by to see what the store looked like 100 years ago.
Darnell said he bought the building, considered a landmark in Hillsboro, 14 years ago.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation Tuesday morning.
