ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Firefighters saved two dogs from a burning home near Ormond Beach.
A neighbor reported the fire at the Volusia County home on Thursday.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports neighbor Daniel Foster and others knew there were animals inside, so the tried to break down the front door and some windows.
Fire department spokeswoman Pat Kuehn says the home was fully engulfed when crews arrived, and the roof collapsed moments later.
When it was safe to enter the home, firefighters found two dogs -- Cannon and Delilah -- inside. They were given oxygen and are expected to recover. A Chihuahua named Mister didn't survive the fire.
The home was a total loss and the State Fire Marshal is investigating.
