Fort Benning-Budget Cuts

COLUMBUS, Ga Officials at Fort Benning say they're considering a recent directive from Army leaders that calls for 25 percent cuts from the Georgia's installation's budget and personnel costs at the headquarters level.
The Georgia base's Maneuver Center of Excellence under the command of Maj. Gen. H.R. McMaster and other installations were notified of the plan earlier this month. The directive was outlined in an Aug. 14 memo from Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond Odierno and Secretary of the Army John McHugh.
A deadline for the review is Sept. 11, more than two weeks before the new fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
Fort Benning spokesman Gary Jones said officials are still studying the internal document and had not yet figured out all of its implications.
