FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A high-speed chase that began in Miami-Dade County ended in a violent crash southwestern Broward County.
The incident unfolded Wednesday morning in rural southwestern Broward County.
Miami television stations broadcast the chase, which started some time before 10 a.m. and may be related to a shooting in southern Miami-Dade County.
The SUV collided with another vehicle, ejecting one person.
Shots rang out as authorities approached the suspect's vehicle and officials took cover as they assisted the victim on the ground in the grassy median. Traffic along U.S. 27 was stopped.
Three SWAT vehicles surrounded the SUV and eventually officers found the suspect dead inside.
Dozens of law enforcement officers from both counties were at the scene.
