CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) -- A southwest Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in a fatal home invasion.
A Lee County judge sentenced 24-year-old Timothy Tuttle Jr. on Wednesday. He was convicted in April of manslaughter with a firearm. Also that month, Tuttle's accomplice, 28-year-old Terry Ragland Jr., received a life sentence after being convicted of second-degree murder, attempted home invasion robbery and burglary.
Authorities say Eric Stuebinger was fatally shot in the chest during a July 2010 home invasion in Cape Coral. The News-Press reports that Tuttle and Ragland were demanding money and drugs, but Stuebinger fought back to protect his ex-girlfriend and their 17-month-old son.
Authorities say the men had been wearing masks, but one of the suspects lost his mask during the struggle.
