MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- Methodists are honoring the pastor who leads worship services at a popular bar on the Alabama-Florida line.
The Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church has presented an evangelism award to the Rev. Jeremy Mount of Perdido Bay United Methodist Church.
Mount leads "Worship at the Water," which conducts worship services and Bible studies at the sprawling Flora-Bama Lounge and Package store on the Alabama-Florida line.
Best known for its annual "Mullet Toss," the Flora-Bama has been the scene of the Sunday morning services for almost two years. Worshippers sometimes wear T-shirts with the saying, "My church is the Flora-Bama."
Mount received the award at the denomination's annual regional meeting, held in Mobile this year.
Two lay members and a youth also were honored for outreach work.
