MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for kidnapping, raping and robbing two women at gunpoint in Mobile last year.
The Press-Register of Mobile reports that Shelby Robinson was sentenced at a hearing Wednesday. U.S. District Judge Ginny Granade said she imposed a longer sentence than called for in federal guidelines because of the "horrific experience" of the two victims and the "extreme nature" of the crime.
Prosecutors say Robinson kidnapped the two women in their car and forced them to perform sexual acts. Prosecutors say he also forced them to get cash from an ATM and threatened to kill them if they went to police.
He also faces charges in Mobile County Circuit Court in connection with the incident.
