JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Fire officials say an elderly woman died and two others were critically injured when a Jacksonville house caught fire.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue spokesman Tom Francis says firefighters found a woman in her 90s alive in the back of the burning house Tuesday evening. Another woman was injured as she ran for help. Officials say the dead woman was in her 70s. Her body was found in a carport.
The older woman was taken to Shands Jacksonville in critical condition. Francis says the other woman may be taken to a burn center in Gainesville. Authorities did not release the victims names.
The Florida Times Union reports it took about 20 minutes to put out the fire at the one story brick house.
An investigation continues.
