Online GED Testing Available in Some Parts of Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Adults wanting to earn an equivalent degree to a high school diploma in Florida may soon be able to take GED exams online in some parts of the state.
State education officials said Monday that computer-based testing provides more efficient and flexible opportunities for adults to earn their diploma. The test will be available initially at centers in Alachua, Citrus, Escambia, Highlands and Walton counties.
While the new computer-based test has the same content currently offered on the paper test, the new system will introduce a streamlined process that allows online registration and scheduling any time of the day or night. The Department of Education plans to expand computer-based GED program across the state beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
Education officials said 32,668 GED diplomas were awarded in 2011.
