ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Officials at the First Baptist Church of Orlando say more than $40,000 in offering has been stolen.
Senior Associate Pastor Danny de Armas told the Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/Nur0nt ) Tuesday that news of the theft was a "sobering moment for our church." He says the money was collected during the 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services on July 15.
The pastor says the money disappeared from a safe with a combination lock and was reported missing July 16.
Church officials say less than $10,000 was in cash, the remainder was in checks. The newspaper reports that no church members have reported that their checks have been cashed.
Orlando police say they are investigating. The pastor says they don't know who took the money and no one has been ruled out.
