PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) -- Deputies say a 3-year-old girl was bitten in the face by her family's pit bull.
Authorities say the dog tried to take food from the girl while she was eating on the couch at her home just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Family members had to pull the dog off the child.
The Tampa Bay Times reports the child was taken to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa with serious injuries.
Authorities quarantined the dog in a bedroom at the home until Pasco County Animal Services could remove it.
Pasco County Sheriff's deputies classified the incident as accidental.
The girl's name was not released.
